Joe, 69, is the devoted husband of Ruth, father of Emily and Alex and proud grandfather of four. A real family man who has spent his life serving others. First in the British Army, and then through 20 years of dedicated work on the railway. Joe is someone who has always put his family, community and country first.

Since 2015 Joe has shown incredible strength, courage and resilience in the face of cancer. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, he underwent surgery and radiotherapy, successfully becoming cancer-free. Then in 2019, he faced another challenge when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. With determination, he underwent major surgery followed by treatment during the difficult period of lockdown - and once again, he came through.

In 2024, the cancer returned and, despite undergoing further treatment, Joe was told in early 2026 that the NHS had pretty much run out of options and could only offer palliative treatment. However, Joe has never been one to give up and so sought a second opinion from a specialist in London and has now been offered proton beam therapy, an advanced treatment that could potentially save his life and give him more precious time with his loved ones.

Unfortunately, this is not available to Joe on the NHS and comes at a price. He and Ruth must find £50,000 for the course of treatment, along with £2,400 for accommodation during the six weeks Joe needs to stay near the hospital in London. This is in addition to the £15,000 that they have already had to pay for investigative surgery and consultations which have enabled him to be selected to undergo the proton beam therapy.

This treatment represents hope. Hope for more memories, more laughter, more time with Ruth, Emily, Alex and his dear little grandchildren.

Joe has faced every challenge with strength and dignity, and now he needs our help to access this potentially life-saving opportunity.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference…. If you are unable to donate, then please can you take the time to share Joe’s story. It would mean the world to his family.

Thank you for your kindness, support and generosity.
