My name is Marilynne Serie, I reside in Garland, Texas. I am setting up this GoFundMe account for my cousin Jody Mace Powell who resides in St. Pete Beach, Florida and has been hit with devastating misfortune. Weeks after receiving a diagnosis of breast cancer, her life was again turned upside down when her house was hit by the extreme wind and flooding and destruction from hurricane Helene and followed by Milton. After returning home to St. Pete Beach, Florida, after the mandatory evacuation of Helene, she found all of her possessions smashed and destroyed which included all her furniture, appliances, personal possessions, destroyed sliding glass doors, windows, bedding, electronics and all other family items and memorabilia which included her bedroom set and the sink that was lifted out of its counter and the refrigerator which was turned over and floated in 6 feet of water. In tears, she sent me pictures of the destruction . It was heartbreaking. After getting help from some cousins who drove 8 hours to come and help her clear out all of her furniture, appliances and possessions smashed, once again she received an evacuation notice as hurricane Milton approached. Not having any place to go local, she had to make arrangements for the care of her animals (a small dog "Charlie" and an African Grey parrot, she had to drive 8 hours to Georgia to stay with friends who offered her a place to stay until Milton passed. With no water or electricity, and not knowing the extent of the damages from the second storm she had to stay in Georgia until she got word that it is safe to return.

Jody is a 63 year old single woman with no family left in St. Pete Beach. She is in dire need of funding to rebuild the portions of the house that were destroyed inside and out and to replace appliances, furniture and other things in order to live in her home. Dealing with a diagnosis of breast cancer just a few weeks prior to the hurricanes and then finding all of this destruction of her house and possessions is overwhelming and she needs a lot of help.
