Help Jody & Allen: Surviving Health Crisis
Donation protected
Hello. We are Jody and Allen Krueger from Hatton, ND. Jody has progressive MS and all the physical ailments that come from that. As I write, I am 60 years of age, Jody is 56. In 2019, Jody had to have a surgical procedure to relieve the infection caused by a bedsore. The infection reached her coccyx, tailbone, in which a part of the bone had to be removed. The wound from this surgery leaves basically a hole in one's backside. Jody was bedridden for approximately 9 months. Receiving home antibiotics and wound care. I retired from my job, used our savings to pay most of our long term obligations. I became a full time home caregiver. For the last 5-6 years, this has been our way. I receive a stipend, wage, from a program offered by the federal government and run by the state. This income has enabled us to live at home, for Jody to enjoy our family. However, starting in November of 2024, due to low hemoglobin, anemia, and high ammonia levels. These hospital stays would last 7-10 days..which resulted in my income being reduced, since I only get paid for in-home care. In February, during another hospital stay, the doctors found a bleed in her stomach. This was causing her low hemoglobin and high ammonia levels. This issue was resolved, or so we thought. Morning of March 15th, at our home, Jody was unresponsive, along with a large bowel movement, black and with a horrendous scent. Jody was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Her hemoglobin was 4, her ammonia levels were 200, causing a coma. Blood was given as it was guessed that Jody had lost 4-5 units of blood. This blood loss resulted in kidney and liver failure. Jody was intubated, given a bunch of medication, all in ICU. Within a week, Jody's functions were coming back, things improved, she finally opened her eyes. Improvement ensued, she was transferred to a PCU unit. The second evening after the tube was removed from her throat, she started aspirating. It was revealed she had "white lung". Her lung filled up with mucus causing pneumonia. Jody was transferred back to ICU. They ran a brachial tube down to remove as much as they could. In about another week in ICU, Jody miraculously recovered. Her liver and kidney issues are much improved. Her lung has recovered. However, Jody's MS has reared its ugly head, affecting now speech and swallow. She has a feeding tube, still on antibiotics. Jody is awake, tries to speak. She is just very weak. We are doing everything to do procedures to get her home so I can take care of her. However, all this time in the hospital, we receive no income. We are at a breaking point. I just want to make sure Jody has a house and home to come back to. We appreciate any assistance and your prayers. Allen and Jody Krueger
