30 Year Old Woman Mauled by Dog
Donation protected
Jodi Erin Wallace is an animal lover - she has spent years rescuing abused bunnies and she adopted her cat of 11 years. She is energetic, joyful, kind, close to her family and a passionate Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Jodi now needs a lot of financial help, as well as your prayers and healing thoughts, to recover from a horrific, life-threatening mauling by a large dog.
Jodi was viciously attacked by a large male German Shepherd and had to be life-flighted to MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland on July 12th. Graphic images and detail of the event and her injuries follow below.
The dog attack occurred during Jodi's stay with her father in Cleveland, where she recently relocated to spend time with her ailing parents. Since leaving the hospital, Jodi has moved in with her mother and stepfather, to be closer to her doctors and her mother.
The dog is normally locked away behind two closed doors, but when Jodi’s father left for work, the second door was not secured. Jodi left her bedroom at 5 am and the German Shepherd attacked without warning in the dark hallway. Jodi’s screams awoke her boyfriend Eric, who ran out of the bedroom to her. Even as she was being mauled, the 4'9" Jodi always thinks of her animals, and she yelled at Eric to close their bedroom door to protect the two bunnies and cat still inside. Eric was able to pull the dog off her and secure him in a separate room before he called 911, attempted to stop the bleeding, and comforted Jodi until the medics arrived. Had Eric not been present, the dog would have not stopped until it killed Jodi.
Any amount you can donate will be gratefully appreciated by Jodi, who is uninsured and unable to go back to work anytime soon. Due to long-term medical battles of their own, her family's ability to help Jodi are limited. At this time we are asking for financial help with lost wages, medicines, and for counseling to help Jodi work through the trauma she continues to endure.
In addition to other injuries detailed below, Jodi faces a long road of surgeries and extended physical therapy. The family estimates that the life flight alone will cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. As medical bills arrive, they will be posted here to update Jodi’s financial need. Anything you can donate will be received with gratitude. Please help if you can!
Even in the midst of her painful recovery, Jodi is still smiling. She says it’s painful to smile, but she is grateful for Eric saving her life and for the medical care that she has received. Ever the animal lover, Jodi requested that the German Shepherd be treated humanely after it completed its mandatory ten-day quarantine. The dog has since been put down.
*** Be aware - Graphic description of injuries below. ***
Both Jodi’s ears were nearly torn off and had to be reattached. She suffered major tears to her skull that required staples in three large areas to close. Her left arm, including the muscle, and shoulder were mauled, causing painful, restricted range of motion on that side of her upper body. Jodi has bite marks on her fingers, some of which are swollen and stiff, with one nail being sewn back on to the nail bed. Her hip was ripped open and required stitches to close the wound. Jodi’s back has numerous bite marks and tears from the dog’s aggressive biting and shaking of Jodi like she was a rag doll.
