Help Jockey Jose L. Vega Recover from Fractures C2 and C7
Donation protected
Jockey Jose Vega contacted me via telephone on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from his hospital room at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. Jose asked me if I could help him set up a GoFundMe page.
Jose explained to me during our phone call on, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, he was in a spill. He was on #2 in the first race at Delaware Park that day. As he was breaking from the gate, the one horse came over and pinched him out, causing his horse to clip heels with the one. His horse went down, and he landed on his head.
Jose has endured two fractures. One is known as a hangman's fracture. This is a break in the second cervical vertebra (C2), located at the top of the neck. This fracture can be very serious due to its location near the spinal cord and the potential for damage to the vertebral artery. The second fracture he has is (C7), a common injury to the neck, often resulting from high-impact accidents or blunt trauma.
Fortunately for Jose, the doctors have told him he's not required to have surgery. However, he will be out of work for about 12 weeks.
I am writing this on his behalf to ask for prayers for his recovery and donations to assist him with his living expenses during his recovery.
Jose also has a Venmo account if anyone would rather donate through that please let me know. I am waiting to hear back from him on that information.
