Hi, my name is Jobana and I'm 45 years old. I'm married to my wonderful husband, Fred. We've been married for 3.5 great years. He has loved and cared for me from day one. I arrived in the United States in 2019 on a visa from Barranquilla, Colombia. I worked to support myself and my kids in Colombia. Six months after marrying, I developed severe knee pain. Since I didn't have medical insurance, I had to go to Stroger Hospital for care. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which affected both knees, eating away all the cartilage and leaving bone on bone on the knees. I was on a program called Charity Care at UIC Hospital where I received medical benefits and was able to get a full knee replacement. That went well, but I'm needing my left knee done. One month before my scheduled surgery, the hospital called and said they couldn't do the surgery due to lack of funding. Now I'm in a bind because I don't have insurance and no way of paying for it.
