Who We Are
My name is Joao. I'm from the favela - slums in Brazil, a poor place in Brazil with lots of violence. I saw people fall into drugs and witnessed the lack of education and food. In a dangerous place like Brazil, I studied in public schools - all of them with depressing, terrible education. I was the typical favela kid who was going to suffer because education wasn't for everyone in this world. But in high school I discovered I want to help heal people as a doctor, to be a hero for everyone - not just my country but distant places too, like I'm still trying to do today. now I’m a medical scientist, physicist, and biomedical scientist with a strong background in research and public health. My partner, Misty, is also a future medical student with a deep desire to care for others and support her family through medicine.
We’re both already halfway through our path in medical school, and our documents are okay. We’ve made it this far through hard work, scholarships, and sacrifice, but now we’re reaching a point where we need help to continue.
I'm Misty. I come from a very simple, uneducated family where I was never encouraged to become someone in life - we lacked the support or foundation to even begin. The idea that 'college doesn't change lives' was what I grew up with; I was always taught to live in the simplest way possible. But that's not what I want for my life.
My dream is to become someone who can be useful to others, especially to my family. I want to show them that education does transform lives, that you can develop a genuine, multifaceted personality, and have a peaceful, respected life - like as a doctor. That's why, even after all the immense difficulties I've faced, I still believe we can improve.
Why We're Asking for Help
This is not financial aid. We’re not asking out of obligation. We know no one is required to help another person study. This is simply a request for support from those who believe in education, health, and a future with good and helpful doctors for the underserved.
The real cost of our medical journey is around $20,000 which is really cheap for two people with scholarships and Joao’s experience in studies but we’re asking for $10,000 to help us stay on track. Any amount is good. Your support will be used to pay for tuition only, since food and housing are already organized.
Why It Matters
Helping students in medicine is not just helping individuals it’s investing in the future of public health.
Medical students today will be the ones caring for your family tomorrow. Supporting our journey means supporting the next generation of healthcare providers, especially in a time when the world needs more doctors prepared to serve with knowledge and empathy.
We believe that education in health is a priority for any society that wants to care for its future and its elderly.
