Help Joanne and Aryian Rebuild After a Devastating Fire.

Our dear friend Joanne recently faced an unimaginable loss. While she was in Toronto attending her aunt’s funeral, an electrical fire broke out in her Playa del Carmen apartment on Saturday, October 26, around 11:30 am. The fire ravaged her home of ten years, leaving nothing but ashes and destruction.

Joanne, a single mother and widow, has worked tirelessly to provide a safe, loving home for her 12-year-old son, Ary. Ary is an exceptional student, consistently recognized as a top achiever in his school, receiving special grants and awards. Tragically, the fire started in Aryian’s room, destroying all his belongings—clothes, school uniforms, his computer, and PlayStation.

Thankfully, neither Joanne nor Ary was home during the fire, but their lives have been upended. Joanne’s apartment is no longer safe to enter due to toxic residues from the fire, and nearly everything they owned is lost. She’s left with only the clothes she brought to Toronto and her work computer, which she thankfully had with her.

Joanne is a dedicated, loving mother who has faced more than her share of hardship, having lost her beloved husband, Mohammed, four years ago. Now, she faces the daunting task of rebuilding from nothing. They need essential items—furniture, beds, mattresses, clothing, kitchen supplies—to start fresh.
