Hi everyone! My name is Jinzu Minna Jain (they/them). I am a writer, artist, Sōtō Zen Buddhist priest, and systemic oppression/equity educator. I am BIPOC, disabled, queer, trans/nonbinary and a child of immigrants.
It makes me feel very vulnerable to say this, but, I need help.
I have sustained a severe injury (Superior Labrum, Anterior to Posterior tear with additional rotator cuff fraying and tearing), to the cartilage in my left shoulder, making my left arm nearly unmovable. It needs immediate treatment.
This requires visits to physical therapists, orthopedic specialists, x-rays, MRIs, and likely surgery. Even with insurance, due to co-insurance, premiums and deductibles, I will be charged between $8,000 - $10,000 for this treatment.
Because I am disabled, and work part-time, I simply don't have these funds. I will need to choose between food, electricity, etc., and medical care.
Everyone is hurting right now. I don't want to pull focus from the national and international atrocities and polycrisis that need all our eyes, hearts, minds and action. My dearest hope is that we can keep caring for community and mutual aid in these times by asking for help when we need it, and offering help as often as we can, even in little ways.
If it feels joyful and within your means to offer money, it will help immeasurably.
If you are unable to give, I wholeheartedly understand. Just being in community with you is a gift!
Thank you for reading this. I am wishing you warmth, ease and connection during these times /|\
