Because of your help, I began a treatment program under Dr. Daniel Ko’s direction.

It includes 2 times Acupuncture a week, Take 3 times oriental herbal medicine a day.

(and still, I need analgesic)

Dr.Ko predicts 8 months of intense treatment to relieve pain. and After he will set up the next program for the reinforcement of finger muscles and ligaments.

I still feel the pain but stay positive. Keep sending your thoughts and prayers.

Greetings. I’m Jinu Lee, a bassist, composer, and music producer.

Some may you know Im from South Korea. I dream of a musician searching for true musical joy and still challenging for that. So, In 2016, I decided to study music at the Berklee College of Music. That was the first step toward the dreams. I graduated as a performance major and studied jazz composition and video game music in film scoring, but I couldn’t finish that. Thankfully, with the various scholarships and grants from inside and outside of school (including the CJ scholarship, Berklee Asian Tour scholarship, Korean American Support scholarship, and many others), and the support of the Boston community, I was able to graduate from Berklee and began my master's degree course at MusIcian Institute, enjoying the honor of being the only scholarship recipient that year to begin my master's course. In the meantime, due to the impact of the pandemic that hit the world, the school's master's course was temporarily closed, but now I am faced with finishing my studies. During the pandemic, I collaborated with a composing team called Digi Forest in LA to sell many songs. And also, I was serving the ministry by LA Sarang Church and New Life Vision Church. Also, with the help of percussionist Oliver Lopez, my brother, I can meet world-class artists.

I did my best, but unfortunately, since I studied contrabass, after some moments, I felt pain in my fingers during practice. One day, while practicing, I felt something break in my left index finger with severe pain, which caused severe swelling of my left index fingers. I immediately went to the doctor, and in the case of my hand, there were no joint left fingers(due to practice), and I received a shocking result that the right hand was also progressing in the same form. After that, my doctor advised me to limit my contrabass practice, and I checked my progress once in two months, and received treatment every week, to continue my musical life. However, due to the pandemic, hospital treatment had to be stopped. Due to continued bass practice without professional management, the cartilage in the joints of my right index finger and the middle finger of my left hand were all worn out. In addition, degenerative arthritis symptoms were occurring in the finger bones. It is difficult to afford the treatment anymore due to the increased tuition and monthly rent that have been saved. I was able to play again recently, so I was covering the treatment costs, but my fingers’ condition, which had worsened during the pandemic, is now to the point where I feel severe pain in the morning and evening. And I woke up in the morning couple of days ago, and I felt so much pain in my fingers that the doctor said that if I left them unattended, it was in such bad condition that I might have to give up playing in near future.

To receive treatment, it needs long-term intensive treatment of at least one year or surgery within 6 months is required. and the expected costs are too high in either way. but I wish I want to get long-term treatment. cause, I can play and practice during the treatment.

안녕하세요 베이시스트 이진우입니다. 아시는 분들은 아시겠지만 저는 지난 2016년 제가 항상 바라던 큰꿈이었던 세계를 누비며 활동하는 뮤지션이 되고자 한국에서의 음악생활을 정리하고 버클리 음악 대학으로 진학을 결정했습니다. 감사하게도 주변의 도움과 CJ를 비롯한 다양한 장학금, 그리고 보스턴 커뮤니티의 도움으로 무사히 학교를 졸업하고 MI에 석사과정을 시작하여 그해 유일의 입학 장학금 수여자라는 영예를 누리면서 석사과정을 시작할수 있었습니다. 그사이 전 세계를 덥친 판데믹의 영향으로 학교의 석사과정이 잠시 문을 닫는 일도 있었으나 이제 공부를 마무리하는 단계에 이르렀습니다. LA에서 Digi Forest 라는 작곡팀과 협연하여 다수의 곡을 판매하면서 어렵던 시절을 버텼고 그 사이 제가 사랑하며 섬길수 있었던 한인교회인 LA 사랑의 교회와 New Life Vision Church에서 주어진 사역도 감당할수 있었습니다. 또한 제 영역을 넓히다보니 퍼커셔니스트 Oliver Lopez의 도움으로 Matt “the Honey Bee” Little, Jacob G, Andy Prado Jr., Ian Roller, Greg Spero, 등등의 세계적인 아티스트들과도 만날수 있었습니다.

이러한 좋은 기회에서 최선을 다했지만 불행히도 전공악기를 콘트라 베이스로 바꾸면서부터 연습 중에 손가락에 통증을 느꼈습니다. 어느날 콘트라 베이스를 연습하다가 손가락에서 뭔가 부러지는 소리와 함께 심한 통증이 몰려왔고, 그로 인해서 손가락이 심하게 붓는 상황까지 이르렀습니다. 그 즉시 의사를 찾아가 진단을 받아보니, 왼손의 경우 연습으로 인해서 관절이 남아있지 않은 상황이었고 오른쪽도 같은 형태로 진행중이라는 충격적인 결과를 받았습니다. 그 이후 저는 결국 콘트라 베이스 연습을 제한할것을 의사에게 권유받으면서 한달에 한번씩 경과를 체크하고 치료를 받으며 음악생활을 이어갔습니다. 하지만 팬데믹으로 인해 병원치료는 중단될 수 밖에 없었고, 전문적 관리 없이 계속된 베이스 연습으로 인해 제 오른손 검지 중지 약지와 왼손 검지 중지 약지 손가락 관절에 있는 연골은 모두 마모되었습니다. 거기에 손가락 뼈에는 퇴행성 관절염 증상이 일어나고 있었습니다. 그 동안 모아둔 금액은 인상된 학비와 그동안의 월세로 인한 지출로 더 이상 치료를 감당하기 힘든 상황인데다. 최근에서야 다시 연주를 할수 있어서 치료비를 충당하고 있었지만, 판데믹 동안 점점 안좋아진 손가락의 상태는 이제는 아침 저녁으로 심한 통증을 느낄 정도가 되었습니다. 그리고 얼마전 아침에 일어났는데 손기락에서 너무 심한 통증이 느껴져 찾아간 의사의 말로는 더이상 방치해 두었다가는 앞으로 연주를 포기해야하는 상황이 닥칠수도 있을정도로 매우 안좋은 상태가 되었습니다.

치료를 받기위해서는 적어로 1년 이상의 장기간의 집중치료나 아니면 6개월 이내에 수술을 받아야 한다고 합니다. 그렇지만 이 비용이 지금 너무 많이 예상되는 상황입니다.
