Help Jimmy’s Battle with XDP Through Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery

Dear everyone,

I am sincerely reaching out to your kind hearts to ask for help for my friend’s husband, Jimmy Palmero Balajadia Jr., who has recently been diagnosed with a rare and progressive brain disorder called X-Linked Dystonia Parkinsonism (XDP).

Jimmy’s condition began in May 2025, when he started experiencing painful muscle contractions, with twisting and stiffness, first in his neck, then spreading to his arms and back. Sadly, his maternal uncles and cousins, also suffered from the same illness and have since passed away. Jimmy is now undergoing genetic testing to confirm the specific mutation on his X-chromosome (he inherited from his mom) that caused his condition.

To help relieve his symptoms, Jimmy received Botox injections from a neurologist specializing in movement disorders on July 11, 2025. Although this provided temporary relief, his symptoms have continued to worsen. His body has become increasingly stiff and weak, making it difficult for him to move or perform daily tasks. He had to leave his job, and his wife, now his primary caregiver, has taken time off work to care for him, placing a heavy emotional and financial strain on their family.

While there is no known cure yet for XDP, Jimmy’s doctor has recommended Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery, a critical procedure proven to help people with movement disorders regain some control of their muscle movements. This involves placing electrodes in specific areas of the brain to help regulate motor function. It could give Jimmy a chance to move more freely again and greatly improve his quality of life.

However, the cost of the DBS surgery is around ₱1.3 million pesos (approximately AUD $30,000 or USD $20,000), an amount far beyond what the family can afford. Their savings have already been depleted by visit to different doctors, and a lot of medical tests.

We are humbly asking for your help so Jimmy can undergo this life-changing procedure. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a difference and bring hope to Jimmy and his family.
