On May 25th I got the call no wife wants to hear when my husband, Jimmie, told me he had an accident at work and he was being rushed to the hospital. While he was working doing the job he loves cleaning windows, his ladder slipped out from under him and he fell 12’ to the ground. Though he is very safety conscious and safety oriented doing 99% of his work from the ground using special cleaning equipment, it was a sobering reminder how quickly a situation can change. The fall left him badly injured with both wrist completely shattered and his back fractured! His doctor said his hands saved his life. This resulted in Jimmie needing 24hr care for the first couple weeks. Both hands were completely immobile and he could do nothing for himself, not even the simple everyday things we all take for granted like brushing our own teeth. As of July 13th he has regained a little strength in his left hand and can do some basic things. Jimmie’s back is healing and he is no longer required to wear a supportive brace. He will require a 2nd surgery on his right wrist due to the severity of the break. Despite all this he remains positive and happy, always smiling, something he’s always been known for!
We own our small window cleaning business and therefore we did not have workmen’s comp. And with the crazy year 2020 has been we had a lapse of coverage in our health insurance during his injury. The doctor has said he will be unable to work for at least 5-6 months while his hands heal.
If you have ever had to go to the hospital you know the medical bills add up quickly. Currently Jimmie’s hospital and doctor bills are over $33,000. We are on GoFundMe looking for help to care for some of these expenses while he recovers. We appreciate all the love, prayers, kind words and support we have received up to this point from family and friends. We greatly appreciate even taking the time to read this and if you can share with others it would mean a lot to me and my husband.
Thank you so much,
Carrissa
