Help Jimi learn to Speak and Walk again.

As some of you have seen previous posts from Jesse and myself, his brother James (Jimi) had not been seen or heard from by his family since 2019. On Monday, June 23rd, Jesse’s mother Gwen received a letter from California’s mental health agency regarding Jimi. Gwen got in contact with a caseworker that had information on Jimi. Jimi has been at UCLA West Valley Hospital for 8 months! Jimi is a type 1 diabetic! He was found unconscious, underneath a vehicle in a mechanic’s shop. His blood sugar was at 800, which caused brain damage. Jimi has a long road of recovery; he is not speaking, can’t walk, or feed himself. He needs to be supervised and taken care of. He has a very long road ahead of him. But with the help of love and support, we are confident we can get a part of him back. He needs physical therapy to learn how to walk again, cognitive and speech therapy to learn how to speak and write again. We are hopeful because he tried to talk to Jesse when he saw him. All the nurses were blown away at Jimi’s attempts because for the last 8 months of his stay there, he’s not uttered a single word. We are looking to raise money to get Gwen back to California to take care of Jimi and to rent a house so Jimi can have his own room, and for all of his future therapy costs. His Medi-Cal will not cover any longer of a stay at the hospital. They are looking to transfer him to a home, but we aren’t sure if his insurance will even cover that. It does not cover the cognitive or speech therapy which he desperately needs. Jimi is in there; we can see it in his eyes. We showed him pictures of when he was a kid, and his eyes lit up. There is hope, and we won’t give up on him. Concluding all of that, we are asking for small donations to help aid in Jimi’s recovery and to get Gwen back to California to take care of her son.
