On April 6 Jim Crawford fell from a ladder while doing home maintenance. He broke his pelvis in two (called an open book fracture), and fractured 4 of 5 lumbar vertebrae. When he was in the ER, he almost bled to death due to a vein that was nicked from the broken pelvis, requiring multiple blood and plasma transfusions. He also damaged his colon. Jim spent 11 days in Surgical ICU before moving out to the floor. Then he had another surgery, and is back in ICU for another short stay. when he leaves the hospital he is facing months of rehabilitation and physical therapy so he can walk again.
