Oct 13th Update: Jim's surgery went as well as can be expected, and the team at Bascom Palmer could not have been more caring. His eyelid is sewn mostly shut to improve the healing process. He made it through the surgery and then the Bascom Palmer surgery center survived hurricane Milton.
The donations from this fundraiser go for Jim's medical bills and insurance. I am Jim's roommate and lifetime friend. He has been with my family most of my life - 20+ years. He used to hang out with me at my school events when I was in grade school, and at 6'8", he was quite the attraction! He is the sibling I never had and I will love him forever. We live in Port Charlotte Florida and were spared damage from Milton.
Jim's next appointment is Tues and we hope for good news! Keep him in your hearts and prayers, as well as all the hurricane victims here in Florida!
Jim woke up May 1 st blind in both eyes. We rushed him to our local eye doctor and he was then rushed to the Florida Retina Group. The FRG said that he had a retina detachment in the right eye, and a retinal tear in the other. In order to save the left eye, they did emergency surgery that same evening.
Two weeks later they operated on the other eye, but he has not regained any vision in that eye. The initial left eye is nearly blind still.
He has been referred to 2 other doctors who are tops in their field and after a total of 3 procedures, the Bascom Palmer institute is going to attempt to repair his damaged cornea and retina and remove the cataract in the left eye. The outlook is not good but we are in the best hands available. The costs involved in these surgeries is beyond our means now.
Jim has used all of his employer’s benefits and is out of work now. We are asking for your help to save perhaps 30% of the vision in one eye so he can see a little bit. His surgery is now October 4th.
Thank you all for reading! And thank you for your help!
