Nine years ago, our father was admitted to Cottage Hospital for a quintuple bypass surgery, and within 7 months of that surgery his kidneys deteriorated and stopped functioning. Since then he has been on dialysis where he has to go to a certified Dialysis Center 3x a week for four hours each day to remove waste, salt, and extra water from his body to help prevent build up, as well as keeping his body regulating the appropriate amount of bodily chemicals in his blood.

On days that our dad has dialysis, he comes home completely drained and exhausted, which ultimately restricts him from any activity for the rest of the day. 

Jimmy, Jim, or Jimbo - as many of his family and friends refer to him as, has been on the Kidney Transplant list for 8 long years. On Saturday morning, the day after his 60th birthday, we received a call that a kidney was available and that we needed to make our way down to Cedars-Sinai immediately. At 4am on Sunday morning, our father had a successful kidney transplant surgery. We are so grateful that he will no longer need to be on dialysis. This successful transplant has given our father a new check on life! He will now have the energy to play with his grandkids, the energy to attend the gigantic Jauregui family gatherings, and most importantly - he will have more time to spend with everyone.


Sadly, now our family is facing the reality of the cost of the transplant as well as the after-surgery care and anti-rejection medications that come with surgery and are not covered by insurance. It is never an easy thing to do, but we are asking for help.
