My brother Jim Pastel has just been diagnosed with colon and lung cancer. Jim has two children who both depend upon him and his health.
This news brings our cancer battles to 7 in the last 11 years. Since 2009 this family has lost my son Jake-20 years old, my daughter Anne, 35 years old, my stepmom, Kate in April of last year, and my mother Joanne in December of last year.
My brother Jack has survived his throat cancer with the help of everyone that helped and my daughter Anne who did not make it was also helped by one of these campaigns.
Now sadly, I must again ask for help. While my brother is enrolled for medicare, his full benefits will not take effect till the end of July which means only in-hospital treatments will be covered.
The cost of chemo, radiation and office visits will not be covered. All of us know the incredible expense of cancer treatment. Without full medicare, his treatment cannot begin without financial assistance
When a person is battling cancer, the last thing they need to worry about is the ability to eat and pay their bills. In this case, we need to worry about that and cancer treatment itself, at least until the end of July.
The Pastel family never wanted to be "that person" people talk about at a party "Do you know what happened to them?" is the last thing we ever wanted, and the idea of having to ask for help yet again is not without regret but this is a situation that needs to be addressed. It is literally a life or death situation.
So once again (and I hope for the last time) I am going to try to rally my troops and hope for some support to help ease this battle in the only way we can. A dime or a dollar or whatever can be spared will be more appreciated than you could possibly imagine.
