I’ve known Jim Marshall since I was 18 years old—38 years ago now. Back then, Jim was the guy always out on his bike, and I never quite understood it. Decades later, I found myself drawn to cycling too, and our paths crossed again. Jim welcomed me into the world of road cycling, teaching me the ropes and showing me what it really means to be part of this community. I’m still learning from him every day.
Recently, while riding with me and our VDB brethren, Jim was involved in a serious accident. Something unexpected in the road, in the dark, caused three to go down, but Jim took the worst of it. He’s been in the hospital since December 23rd—spending Christmas away from home. Seven broken bones and a punctured lung. His bike frame and shifters are done, and his medical bills are piling up. It will be some time until he knows how much that will all cost - we all know it will be a lot!
For nearly 40 years, Jim has been a fixture in the local cycling scene, always ready to help others and share a coffee after a long ride.
Now, Jim needs our help; whether it’s a few dollars or simply sharing this fundraiser. Your generosity will help cover his medical expenses and get him back on the road, where he belongs. Let’s help Jim make his comeback and return to the coffee shop after the ride, surrounded by friends.
