My friend Jim James is a world-class songwriter. His songs evoke a life well and truly lived - rich with adventure, twists and turns, observations, and above all his immutable gracious spirit.

I’ve know Jim a few years now, and we’ve been talking about making a record since the beginning - before I even had a studio in place in fact!

So, when he approached me in March to let me know he’d been given a terminal cancer diagnosis, we agreed to get moving immediately with this record - listening and talking through song choices, arranging musicians and engineers, and brainstorming album titles and design options.

All told, we’ve completed four sessions in the studio and recorded eleven gorgeous tracks which truly capture a snapshot of this incredible man, his catalogue of songs, and a parting message from him to a world which inevitably will be forced to continue without him.

Jim has been an inspiration. Smiling, laughing, sharing stories, and guiding us through what I believe is a very special record indeed.

But, this album, The Book of Gratitude is more than a collection of songs its the legacy of one of our community’s most authentic voices. The messages he conveys are timeless, and to record him in the final days of his life has been… the opportunity of a lifetime.

We are now at the final stage of the project, and the next steps are very expensive and unavoidable. Unfortunately, I can’t come close to affording to cover the costs myself so I am reliant on you - my friends, Jim’s friends, musiclovers, and anyone who feels they’d like to help preserve one human legacy in song.

We need to act quickly if we hope to have the album in Jim’s hands, so please help today if you can.

The first funds received will be used to cover imminent costs of manufacturing and any remaining funds will be used to pay the musicians and engineers who have graciously donated their time up until now.

If we exceed our goal, this money will be used to promote this record to share Jim’s message of Gratitude far and wide.
