Jim Gardner has been battling Multiple Myeloma since March 2024. It was found by his kidney doctor because Jim's lab work was off. Jim’s doctor said, "Something isn't adding up, so let's run some tests and add cancer labs." The labs confirmed a cancer diagnosis, and Jim has been having treatment ever since.

During this time, Jim has been supported by his family, especially his wife Lisa. Lisa works as a medical assistant and is Jim’s biggest advocate, and takes him to as many appointments as she can when she isn’t working. Jim and Lisa will be married 36 years on June 3rd. The couple met in '88 when Jim worked for Lisa’s dad's carnival. Lisa and Jim got married in '89 and had their oldest son, Justin, in August of '89, their daughter, Nichole, in '93, and their youngest son, Rocky, in '97. Lisa says she would have had more, but Jim wasn't having it .

Lisa and Jim would use the money raised to help assist in paying medical and household expenses. Jim unloads trucks at Walmart’s warehouse in Wintersville, Ohio. He has been there 24 years and is still working despite being in active cancer treatment. Jim has had to miss more and more work lately, despite trying to work as long as he can. Jim hopes he can continue working as that drives him to keep going, and the funds would also assist in taking the financial burden off of the days Jim has to take off to rest or because he is in too much pain.
