Our family is reaching out with open hearts to ask for support for our Uncle Jim, who recently underwent a life saving heart transplant and his loving wife who unexpectedly was let go days prior to this life saving surgery. Please read more below.

After a long and difficult journey with heart failure, Jim was finally approved for a transplant. Prior to surgery, everything seemed to be in place the procedure was approved through insurance and my aunt’s employer, including paid leave and long-term care coverage. We felt a sense of relief knowing he could focus fully on his health and recovery.

However, just days before the transplant, everything changed. On the Monday before surgery, after insurance coverage had already been approved, my aunt was unexpectedly let go from her job. This sudden loss of income has created an overwhelming financial burden at the worst possible time.

Then, on Saturday, January 10th, Uncle Jim received the call that changed everything: a heart was available. With no time to hesitate, he went in for surgery, a miracle we are endlessly grateful for.

The transplant has been successful so far. Jim remains hospitalized and continues to require ongoing medical care, close monitoring, medications, and extensive follow-up treatment and care as part of his recovery journey. Including a complication that will mean continued treatment. After surgery his kidneys took a hit requiring dialysis and a possible kidney transplant now in his future. As well as short term care in between treatment and coming home. As my Uncle Jim and aunt focus on healing and hope, they are also facing mounting medical and living expenses, compounded by the sudden loss of income and extended hospital stay. We are asking for help to ease this financial strain so they can focus on what truly matters, recovery, rest, and embracing this second chance at life.
