Hey everyone, my name is Brian Archer. I have a very good friend who is in desperate need of help, as he will soon be homeless. As many of you know, I served the Battle Ground community for nearly 20 years. One day, while parked in the Sunshine Laundry Mat parking lot, a man with long white hair and a beard walked up to my patrol car and began a conversation. Many of you may know him as “Whitey” or “Santa Claus.” I know him as Jim, Jim Cranfill to be exact.
So here’s the back story: Jim is 65 years old and lived with his partner for almost 30 years, over 22 years at the Battle Ground Mobile Estates. Jim was disabled at the early age of 25 due to injuries sustained while logging. At an early age, Jim was given the option to continue school (where he was failing) or to go to work with his father as a logger. So at the age of 12, he began his journey into being a logger. Jim never went back to school and has a difficult time reading. He was put on disability at the age of 25, and as many of you already know, that’s like a death sentence for being able to work. Fast forward, Jim met a lady, and they shared the same house for nearly 30 years. Jim became her caregiver (not paid) but did everything for this woman. When she was no longer able to work, Jim showed up in her place so she still got a paycheck every week. Due to her many health issues, she passed away in July of 2025. Jim’s name is not on anything, and his space rent at his trailer park is more than his disability check. He is about to be homeless through no fault of his own. He does not use drugs or alcohol. We got him on a housing list (Section 8) and were told the wait is 3-5 years. We have gotten him on Medicare. He has no teeth and struggles to eat anything that has value to his health. (Hopefully, this will change in the near future.) Jim has two little dogs. These guys are his life and all he has to keep him going. This guy would give anyone the shirt off his back, and now I am asking you to do the same. Anything you can give helps. My goal is to raise enough money to sustain his living long enough for probate to take its course, and by God’s will, he will be given the trailer he lives in, and we can look at options from there. Her daughters have pledged the trailer to him, but this all takes time. I am helping with other resources and being his payee so his money is managed correctly each month. We have him paid through Jan 31, 2026; then he becomes homeless with his two dogs. If you have other means of help—food, clothes, dog food, housing—please reach out to me personally. Please share this as much as you can. We are doing everything we can. We have sent letters to all the churches, we have given him clothes, money, and paid bills. Now we are asking for your help. Don’t let Jim and his dogs become homeless. A little help is all he needs.
Thank you,
His friend
