Help Jim and Candy Rebuild After A Tree Fell on Their House

Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Meagan Porter and I am asking today for help for my parents Jim and Candy. On Monday evening, June 23, a massive oak tree uprooted and fell on their house and garage during a storm. They are so fortunate that they were not home at the time of the incident, and even more fortunate that they do have home insurance. But they are facing a lot of initial out-of-pocket expenses, a deductible, and missed work due to the incident. I'm hoping we can help ease their burden financially so that they can focus on cleaning up and coordinating repairs. All funds raised from this GoFundMe will go directly to Jim and Candy Porter of Reedsburg, Wisconsin.

My parents were just getting home from the grocery store on the evening of June 23. They were pulling into their driveway when something made them stop and wait. A storm had been kicking up and they watched in horror as a large oak tree from their neighbor's yard completely uprooted itself and fell diagonally across their garage, driveway, and the first and second stories of their home. Had they been heading down the driveway just a few seconds earlier, it's very possible they would have been under that tree.

The massive oak tree ripped a hole in the roof over my parents' kitchen and water cascaded down into the room. The drywall is damaged and will need to be repaired. The tree also lay across my parents enclosed back porch, blocking the back door and sinking the porch by about six inches. It smashed two windows and knocked down a bird house. The tree narrowly missed the window in my parents' bedroom but it did still punch a sizeable hole through their roof. There is damage to their garage, gutters, siding, fencing, and another tree on their property. It is likely there is also other damage that cannot be assessed until the tree is completely removed.

Thankfully their vehicles are okay and everyone in the house is shaken up but okay, even their puppy Reesey. The house is habitable for now. But my parents are facing a very long road of removing the tree, cleaning up their home and yard, assessing the damage, dealing with contractors, repairing and replacing multiple areas of their home including their roof, and back and forth with the insurance company as well. And while they are fortunate to have home insurance, they will have to pay a deductible as well as many out-of-pocket expenses while they wait to figure everything out.

My parents Jim and Candy have been residents of Reedsburg for 37 years and have lived in their house on Webb Avenue for 35 years. Many people know them as the proprietors of the popular hot dog stand Jimmy's To-Go, or maybe you've seen my mom working at Walgreens or my dad serving your kids lunch at Webb Middle School. Maybe you go way back with them and remember when they delivered auto parts for Bumper to Bumper. Maybe you've seen them during the Butterfest Parade or serving beef sandwiches at Freedom Fest.
My parents have been such a huge part of the Reedsburg community and I'm hoping that their community will consider helping them through this difficult time. They have survived two major floods in this house and I have faith that they can survive this too. Any amount would be very much appreciated. If you are unable to give financially, a great way to help would be sharing this campaign with others.

Thank you for your time, and thank you for helping.
