Help Jhoke and Ayo's Family Return Home
Please support Jhoke Abdul, her husband Ayorinde, and their children Little Ayo (3 years old) and Naomi (1 year old) as they work to rebuild their lives.
In early 2019, Jhoke and Ayo immigrated from Lagos, Nigeria to Rabat, Morocco hoping to find stability and safety. However, as undocumented immigrants they have been subject to constant racist and xenophobic harassment since their arrival in Morocco and denied any opportunities to secure housing, employment, or healthcare.
Over the past three years, Jhoke has relied on the limited income she gains by begging in Rabat’s medina to cover the costs of food, medicine, and rent. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and Naomi’s birth, this already limited income has not been enough to make ends meet.
Both Jhoke and Ayo have chronic health issues which have worsened as a result of inaccessible medical care in Morocco, and as Little Ayo and Naomi approach school-age, their family has made the incredibly difficult decision to return to Nigeria. They are hoping to generate enough funds through this campaign to cover the costs of survival (food and medicine) and relocation: plane tickets, entering a three-year apartment lease, putting the children in school, finding long-overdue medical care, and reopening the shop that Ayo ran prior to their immigration.
This situation could not be more urgent. Jhoke, Ayo, and their children deserve the chance to have a stable life. Please share whatever funds you have available to support their relocation.
