Help Jewel walk on all four legs again
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Holly. I have the best parents out there, and they own the sweetest 8-year old dog, Jewel aka Juju. She is a retired greyhound from the Palm Beach Kennel Club and they adopted her in 2019. She is always happy to see anyone that comes over, loves long walks with her dad, runs zoomies in the backyard, and plays with her stuffed animals or Ella, her sister cat.
On June 24th, shortly after 6pm my mom was walking Jewel before dinner. Jewel was attacked by a neighborhood bulldog. My mom was alone with Jewel and didn't have a phone to call for help, so the owner of the bulldog called my dad, Parker, who then called their friend, Joe, to rush them to the hospital. Jewel was losing a lot of blood and the wound was over 9 inches long. My dad was alerted and raced to the hospital from Jupiter to be with Jewel and my mom.
They arrived at VEG in Boynton Beach, where they began life-saving measures. They were able to stop the bleeding, and she was sedated so they could transfer her to Access Specialty Animal Hospital in Royal Palm, where they assessed and bandaged the wound. They kept her under observation for 48 hours. The newest concern was amputation due to the intensity of the wound & possible infection, the worst case being .......
We waited overnight for the surgeon's arrival, and he informed us he should be able to save the leg with a set of surgeries and hospital visits. 6 trips back and forth to the hospital for wound care/bandage changes; she is home and has been on 9 medications throughout this process. She is doing better, and things are looking up; we are praying every day that the healing process is successful, and she can gain full use of her leg so she can get back to doing her zoomies. But we are not out of the woods yet.
We are raising money for my parents; the bills are piling, and the recovery is not over. Anything helps <3
