Early Monday morning 9/15, Jetta our 2yr old mare was not acting quite right with mild colic symptoms. She was visibly in pain and was rushed to OSU for emergency surgery. I was told that her kind of colic will not resolve on its own without surgical intervention. I only had 2 choices 1) come up with 9k up front or 2) put my horse down. She had a lot of things going for her such as good labs, young age, found her symptoms early, and a high chance of a full recovery. So I came up with that 9k and here we are. She is out of surgery, looking good, with a good shot of coming home for a full recovery. Here's the catch, her full stay will be between 12-15k! I never thought I would be in this situation with a horse and an ultimatum. I am seeking help with the emergency surgery costs and recovery. We have a long road ahead of us and one that both of us are up to fight for, but we need your help. She will have about 3 months stall rest and rehab, then after that she will start physical rehab once she passes vet checks. Currently Jetta is at OSU and will be there for a total of 10 days as long as she is recovering without complications. I will do my best to keep everyone updated and we absolutely appreciate all the prayers and good vibes! She is one heck of a fighter and a very special mare! Update: Jetta is post-op day #3 now and is staying stable and on the correct path to a good recovery! She is eating mash & soaked alfalfa pellets, going on walks, hand grazing, and is spunky. Her incision site looks great!

Update: Jetta went home Sunday 9/21 post-op day #6, but ended up back at OSU Monday night for colic. She will stay at OSU until we can figure out what's causing the colic. She is stable, but is requiring pain meds, IV fluids, and Anti-inflammatories. This is a big setback, and hopefully we can get her through this hiccup!
