I am Brennan Rood and I am trying to raise money to help one of my mom’s students. My mom has taught Jesus and all of his siblings over the last several years. She has known their family for approximately 20 years.
Jesús has been diagnosed with dystonia, a neurological movement disorder that causes involuntary muscle contractions and uncontrolled movements. His doctors are still conducting tests to determine the specific type of dystonia and the best course of treatment.
His symptoms began gradually with a limp in first grade, followed by sudden falls and difficulty writing. Over time, his condition progressed until he became unable to walk, use his hands, control his body movements, or sit upright without assistance. In the middle of second grade, his condition worsened to the point that he was no longer able to attend school at all.
On July 20, 2026, Jesús experienced severe pain and blurred vision. He was taken by ambulance to Dyersburg Hospital and then transferred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. He is currently experiencing intense pain, difficulty eating, severe involuntary movements, high fever, and difficulty breathing. His medical team is working to find medication that will safely and effectively manage his symptoms.
Doctors are considering transferring Jesús to a children’s hospital in Houston with greater experience treating dystonia. His family and medical team are working with insurance to obtain approval and arrange transportation and accommodations.
Donations will help cover travel, lodging, meals, transportation, and other expenses while Jesús receives specialized care. Any contribution will help his family remain by his side and focus on his treatment.
If you are unable to donate, please share this fundraiser and keep Jesús, his family, and his medical team in your prayers. Thank you for your compassion and support.
