My name is Jessie, and I’m raising funds for myself and my dad, who is 70 years old with Carcinoma & melanoma skin cancer. Until recently, we were living in our home in San Diego, doing our best to get by. We opened our doors to a friend and coworker of mine, letting him move in with us. For a while, things were stable, but everything changed after he was added to the lease. Suddenly, he began demanding more space than we had agreed on, and tensions rose in our crowded home.

On May 19th, I came home from work to find blood outside and inside the house, with no one around and the WiFi shut off. I rushed to a nearby hotspot to contact a friend, who helped me reach my dad. That’s when I learned my roommate had attacked my father over a disagreement about his belongings. My dad was sucker-punched, suffering a gashed forehead, a broken finger, fractured ribs, a splintered hip, and a fractured vertebra in his neck. He didn’t realize the full extent of his injuries until the next day, when I had to call the ER for help a second time.

My Dad had not been able to work for 10 months because of his injuries, so we fell behind on our rent

Since then, we’ve lost our home and nearly everything we owned. We’ve been staying in motels since February 1st with help from relatives and friends, but our resources are gone. All we have left fits in a small storage unit. We’re asking for help to cover first and last months’ rent so we can find a safe place to live and begin to rebuild. We also need support for basic necessities like furniture, a washing and drying machine, and beds, since we wouldn’t even have enough for a place to sleep.
