Help the Bass Family Overcome Medical Crisis

Hi, I’m Jessica. The daughter of Duane and Shirley Bass. I am fundraising to help my parents in a time of need.

Over the past year, our family has struggled to find answers for my Dads illness. Little did we know, all of the signs and symptoms were not really related to anything that the symptoms suggested.

With this post, I will do my best to preserve my dad’s dignity because he is a beautiful person and I don’t want anyone seeing him for anything but that. Without going into too much detail the financial crisis has much to do with decisions that were made before we knew the full scope of what was going on.

More changes revealed something that was out of left field and completely unexpected.

My dad was diagnosed with frontal temporal dementia and the decline has come on like a freight train. Sometimes it doesn’t feel real. Every day feels like we lose more and more of him and it is heart wrenching.

With this diagnosis many medical bills have racked up, as well as my parents main source of income has ceased. My mom has always worked tirelessly because she is great at what she does and is contributing as much as she can, but as things decline, she is also the main caregiver for my dad as well.

If you ever knew my dad, you know he would give the shirt off his back to anyone and he would still do the same today. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, he has very little idea about the changes that are happening. That does give me some peace that he might not be suffering like the rest of us.
