Help Jessica's Family After Sewege Flood Disaster

Donation protected
Hi, I’m reaching out on behalf of my friend Jessica and her family. Jessica is a dedicated mother of 4 beautiful children. Recently, their world was turned upside down when their home was flooded by a sewage leak. The damage has been devastating, and they have lost so much — not just belongings, but their sense of security and stability.

The bedrooms, family room, kitchen, and garage were severely flooded, with contaminated sewage water rising halfway up to ankle level, damaging everything in its path. I have included a portion of the inspector's report that states the water measured is Category 3 water, which is considered "black water" because it is heavily contaminated with pathogens, bacteria, and potentially toxic substances posing significant health risks and requiring specialized restoration. Rapid action is crucial to prevent mold growth and further contamination. So many of their belongings were disposed of because, unlike clean water, when sewer water hits wood, furniture, clothing, etc., it can’t be cleaned or repaired.

The family’s clothes, toys, and belongings — especially for the youngest children, including a baby under 4 months old — were contaminated and destroyed. Everything stored in the garage was contaminated, including bikes, scooters, and even the children’s beds and stuffed animals. Sadly, even the baby’s new crib was ruined. The bunk beds seen taped off have to be disposed because once the polluted sewage water hits and absorbs through the wood it can not be saved. To make matters worse, 3 of the 4 children suffer from asthma, and the flooding has made their living conditions even more dangerous. A recent mold inspection report revealed the presence of mold growth and water damage throughout the apartment. Lab results confirmed an elevated mold spore count in all samples collected, which has made the situation even more urgent. This mold is a serious health risk, especially for the children with respiratory issues.

On top of the immense loss of their personal items, the family is facing the hardship of being displaced. They have been relocated four times already, and their renters' insurance has been exhausted because it was used to secure shelter for the family. The earliest date they’ve been told they may return home is May 7th, but that keeps getting pushed back as the contamination issue is still being addressed and unresolved.

Jessica had been working from home to support her family, but with no home to return to, she has been unable to work, adding additional strain to their already difficult situation.

Why We Need Your Help:

This is an incredibly tough time for this family, and the financial strain is overwhelming. They are in desperate need of funds to help them recover from this disaster. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly to helping them replace essential items, secure temporary housing, and provide for their children’s immediate needs.

The financial burden of replacing their lost belongings, finding safe housing, addressing the mold issue, and restoring their lives is too much for them to bear alone. With your help, we can ease some of the pressure and ensure they can start rebuilding their lives, starting with the basics — clothing, bedding, and other necessities for their children.
