All my life I have worked hard. I survived childhood, moved thirteen times, went to college, earned a BA and a Masters, and found my passion in the beauty business. I kept my fingers in the pot with decorating, got married (a couple of times!), raised kids and husbands, and cared for my grandparents in their old age. I left my husband to care for my mother, who died at 60. At 40, a massive heart attack slowed me down—so much for Pilates, jogging, swimming, and tennis! At 50, cancer, and I beat that! I volunteered for Hospice of Palm Beach County and helped create and run a wig store associated with Good Samaritan Hospital, free to those who could not afford it. Then came COPD, even though I never smoked a day in my life. And then the big whammy, lupus, which has taken me down. Last year, while on a ladder at a client’s house, I fell and broke my foot, ankle, tailbone, L1-L4 vertebrae, and right hip. Although they can’t fix my broken back due to disintegrated bones, I have trudged along and been doing great. Four weeks ago, I slipped on a wet floor and broke my left hip. Hospital and two rehabs later, money only goes so far. Insurance has paid out a lot in the past 17 months, but I am facing overwhelming co-pays and expenses and am in need of a little leg up. This is beyond humbling for me, but so many friends who have already fed me, cared for me, and loved me beyond measure suggested I do this. I have always been a kind and generous person, helping many with house payments, college help, car payments, and plane tickets for funerals. Make no mistake, I have hurt some people, said no, been stupid, and done some shady things. But in my life, I have done way more good than bad. Thanks for your love.
