Help Jessica Recover and Keep Her Home
Donation protected
Jessica has had a really rough past six months. It started Halloween night after handing out candy. She complained that her knee hurt and felt like a cramp in her calf. That night, she woke up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain. I massaged her legs and gave her some pain meds. A few days later, the pain got worse and the back of her leg started turning red. I took her to the emergency room. They checked her for a blood clot and ran some imaging, but nothing came back. They gave her some pain medicine and sent us home, telling her to go see her blood doctor (she has a rare blood condition).
She scheduled an appointment with her hematologist, but it was months away. She dealt with the pain for a few weeks, but then her legs started swelling up. I took her back to the ER, and this time they said it was a Baker's cyst behind her knee, but they couldn’t drain it, and she needed to go see an orthopedic surgeon. They also put her on Lasix to reduce swelling in her legs. She scheduled an appointment, and we went to see one. He said he couldn’t operate and put her in a knee brace with crutches.
She was taking the meds, which make her urinate frequently. She had to go to the bathroom but stumbled backward on the crutches and fell. I caught her head from hitting the ground, but she landed on her hip extremely hard. I called 911 as she couldn’t move. She went to the ER again, and they did a lot of scans to make sure she didn’t break her hip. Her hip was okay, but they did a culture of fluid from her knee and determined that she had septic arthritis. She spent two weeks in the hospital and then transferred to a rehabilitation center for another two and a half weeks. She was let go from her job while in the rehabilitation facility.
She was released to come home and finish her IV antibiotics at home. The same night, she went to the bathroom, and it was nothing but blood. I immediately called 911 again, and she went to the ER yet again. This time, I arrived at the ER, and the doctor told me she was fighting for her life. Her blood pressure dropped under 80/60. They did scans to see where all the blood was coming from. They determined it was a stomach ulcer, but the blood wasn’t clotting. They did emergency surgery, but it was unsuccessful. They kept her alive with blood transfusions and performed another surgery and stopped the main blood supply to the ulcer. They did a third surgery to completely stop the blood flow from the ulcer.
She was recovering in the hospital for a week and a half when they found that her liver wasn’t functioning. They transferred her from Sugar Land to the Medical Center to be evaluated by the best team possible. We found out that she needed an immediate liver transplant as it was causing all of her issues. Her kidneys started shutting down, and she went into respiratory distress a couple of days later.
Jessica was intubated and put into a medically induced coma until they could find her a suitable liver donor. This took three weeks. She received the liver and has been recovering very slowly. She is currently in the LTAC unit and will be here for some time.
Jessica has been unable to work and hasn’t received a paycheck since January. We have used every bit of savings we have and are fighting to stay afloat. The bills are stacking up, and we have had to sell her vehicle, but it still isn’t enough. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Please help us save our house!
Thanks for your time reading this, and thanks again for any donation. Every bit helps at this point!
