Hi everyone,
My name is Emily, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my sister, Jessica, as she prepares for a life-changing kidney transplant after a long and difficult journey with Chronic Kidney Disease. Over ten years ago, Jessica was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) following medically necessary treatment in her youth that unfortunately caused lasting kidney damage. Although the treatment was essential at the time, the effects have stayed with her ever since. For years, she has quietly managed her health with strength and determination — continuing to work, show up for the people she loves, and live her life as fully as possible despite the challenges. Now, she is preparing for a kidney transplant — a surgery that will give her a new opportunity for improved health and stability.
Transplant Timeline
I was evaluated to donate a kidney to Jessica but was not approved. However, our mom has been approved as a donor. Because she is not a direct match for Jessica, she will participate in a paired kidney donation program. This means she will donate her kidney to another recipient, and in return, Jessica will receive a well-matched kidney through the transplant team at Loyola. Our mom’s surgery is expected at the end of March, and Jessica’s transplant is anticipated to take place this summer. We are incredibly grateful to be moving forward.
How Your Support Will Help
Jessica will need to step away from work during her transplant and recovery period to focus fully on healing. During this time, she will face significant financial challenges, including:
- Medical and transplant-related expenses
- Recovery and follow-up care costs
- Essential living expenses
- Lost wages during her time away from work
Anyone who knows Jessica knows how hardworking and independent she is. Asking for help does not come easily to her, but this is a season where support from family, friends, and community will make a meaningful difference. All funds raised will be withdrawn by me and given directly to Jessica to help cover her medical expenses and living costs during her recovery.
If you are able to contribute, any amount — no matter the size — will help ease the financial burden and allow Jessica to focus on what matters most: healing and long-term health. If donating is not possible, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much to our family.
Thank you for your kindness, support, prayers, and encouragement as we walk through this journey together. It truly means more than words can express.
With gratitude,
Emily
