The Big Island of Hawaii has a startling overpopulation of abused and abandoned animals. With all the shelters over capacity, my friend Jessica Mahley has set up an animal sanctuary on her own property. Jessica has secured a one acre lot where she cares for stray dogs that she has rescued off the streets. They are spayed and neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before she finds loving homes for the beautiful, unwanted souls. This is done mostly at her own expense. When she's not working at the local cat sanctuary she is volunteering at the free spay and neuter clinics on the island. Her weekly dog food bill is $125 and her weekly rent is $175. Jessica has built safe, secure kennels for all these dogs but she, herself, lives in a mini van on the property.
She has the opportunity to purchase a mini bus that has been converted into a tiny home. I would like to help her achieve this goal. Jessica is a good soul and deserves a safe space of her own. Can you help? Mahalo :)
