Help Jessica Matthews Fight Cancer

Jessica is a 35-year-old vibrant loving wife and mother of two young children. Her daughter Murphi is just 4 years old and is an adorable mini version of her mother, creative and passionate. Her son Liam is only 8 years old but has the mind of a genius and can rattle off memorized perfect details of every Nintendo game ever made, not to mention that he’s almost a straight A student. These two innocent children had to learn devastating news recently: that their mommy has breast cancer.

Fortunately, Jessica paid very close attention to her body and alerted her doctors right away to changes – they thought they caught it early – but due to a unique type of hormone she possesses, they have to treat her cancer very aggressively. She is a young 35-year-old woman who now needs to go through an aggressive 6-10 rounds of chemotherapy for a full week every third week, followed by a double mastectomy and another year of hormone targeted chemotherapy. Then she will have to endure a 5-year regimen of a very aggressive drug that has serious life style hindering side effects. Her journey is just beginning, however the preparatory expenses for her chemotherapy are extensive, and she is very focused on making sure her children stay healthy and happy.  Jessica cannot continue in her job as a professional home organizer while she receives the most aggressive treatments and recovers for the next 9-12 months.

Her husband Cory will have to take significant time off work to help her with appointments and take care of her during the weeks of chemotherapy when she will be sick and weak. This means the family’s income will go down substantially. Cory will also need to take care of their children and home because Jessica will not be able to do the things she used to do. Additionally, many of her necessary medical treatments and cancer diet regimens are not covered by her health insurance, such that the family is concerned about how to make ends meet.

Jessica just had surgery to insert the chemo port and her treatment is already getting underway. Our family is pulling together to help my sister Jessica, but it has become painfully obvious that we do not have the financial means that are necessary to help them keep their heads above water. Jessica was resistant to ask our extended family, friends, and community for help – but I know she needs it. If you can, please help Jessica and her family raise money so she can fight cancer on all fronts, while also ensuring her two young children have what they need.
