Help Jessica Get a Safe, Wheelchair-Accessible Vehicle
Goal: $33,000
Location: Australia
Urgency: Immediate need due to safety and reliability concerns
Hi, my name is Jessica Bollen. I’m 35 years old and live with Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type 3—a rare genetic condition that causes extremely fragile bones. I’ve experienced over 400 fractures in my lifetime, along with ongoing health issues that require regular medical appointments and therapies. I use a powered wheelchair full time.
Until recently, I had a wheelchair-accessible Nissan Cube, which gave me the freedom to live independently. But my car was damaged when someone ran into the back of it. While it’s currently still drivable and insured, the damage is significant, and parts for this rare vehicle are nearly impossible to find.
Unfortunately, Maxi Taxis are not a safe or reliable option for me. There have been heartbreaking cases—one involving a woman who lost her life after her wheelchair wasn’t properly secured, and another who was severely injured. I’ve experienced similar situations myself, and I no longer feel safe using them.
Here’s the reality:
I rely on regular transport for essential medical care, therapy, and daily life.
I receive a Disability Support Pension, which means I’m not eligible for financing a new vehicle.
I am a participant on the NDIS, but they only fund the modifications, not the vehicle itself.
Very few cars meet the Australian standards for safe wheelchair access.
The only vehicle that currently meets both safety and accessibility standards for my needs is the Kia Seltos Sport, which costs approximately $33,000 brand new. Modifications will be completed by Freedom Motors Australia, specialists in accessible vehicle conversions.
What Your Support Means
With your help, I can regain the freedom and independence to safely attend medical appointments, therapy sessions, and participate in community life—just like any other 35-year-old woman. This car will be more than a vehicle—it will be a lifeline.
Your donation—no matter how big or small—will go directly toward purchasing this safe, reliable, and life-changing vehicle. I’ve also included photos of the car I hope to buy and what the final wheelchair-accessible conversion will look like.
