My sweet colleague Jessica Duffy has been a source of positivity and inspiration for all of us who know her. She is a 41 year old mom, wife, and teacher in the middle of her fight against breast cancer. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Her2- Breast Cancer in April. Her treatment plan began with 20 rounds of chemotherapy, including the “red devil.” In an effort to stop the growth of her estrogen-driven cancer, she has also undergone treatments to force her body into early menopause. The next step for Jessica is a double mastectomy with lymph node dissection today, November 7th. Once she heals from surgery, the final “leg” of her journey will consist of 30 rounds of radiation to ensure any residual cancer cells are destroyed, and to greatly reduce the chance of recurrence.
