Aloha Kākou!
On December 31st 2021, Jessica Alvarez was rushed to the ER, having stroke like symptoms. They were able to diagnose her with Moyamoya Disease by comparing data from her 1st ER visit back in March 2021. Due to this Disease she ended up having a Transient ischemic attack (TIA). After the diagnosis the team of doctors and specialists agreed that thereʻs no one in Hawaiʻi that they feel is capable of doing the surgery she needs. Her neurosurgeon adamantly pushed for her to get to Stanford Hospital in California. After a long wait and multiple ER visits later, Stanford accepted Jessica and agreed to do her surgeries.
Jessica will need to fly to California to the Stanford Moyamoya Center to receive more medical treatments to help with this disease. She will undergo a Bilateral bypass that entails 2 brain surgeries. When all goes as planned. her stay will be for about a month.
Any donation will be helpful as Jessica will need to cover the cost of a full time caregiver, travel, lodging, rental car, food etc. Please continue to keep Jessica in our prayers as she continues to battle this incurable disease. Mahalo in advance for your aloha and kākoʻo (support)!
