We are neighbors in the Patty Jewett area of Colorado Springs, who are coming together to help one of our own. On Friday night, our neighbor and friend Jessica Cabrera and her family were violently attacked in their home. Her brother, sadly, did not survive the attack, and she and her mother are in the hospital recovering from their serious injuries.
Jessica needs immediate help with medical expenses, meals, travel expenses for her family to come to assist, and getting back on her feet with her 2-year-old son, who was (thankfully) not hurt, but will have a lifetime of pain.
We have setup a checking account specifically for administering the contributions. A friend covered the travel expenses for an immediate family member to come to the Springs to support Jessica and her mother which we will reimburse from the account accordingly.
Then we intend to provide an ATM card that Jessica and her mother can use moving forward until the campaign ends and funds are depleted.
The purpose of the campaign is to provide support so they can move forward from this crisis, begin to recover, and live safely and independently.
Donors are primarily people who live in the area who may or may not know Jessica and her family, but certainly know about the crime, and want to help. Our campaign has been shared on the Patty Jewett Neighborhood Association Facebook page, and also shared with at least one of the local TV news stations. We hope the broader reach will get us closer to our goal!
Thank you for your consideration and support of our friends in their time of immense need.
