On a day that started like any other, our lives changed forever. My little brother Jayce was home sick with me when we noticed thick clouds of smoke rolling out of the back of my dad’s house next door. I rushed over, kicked in the door, and tried desperately to save our cat and my brothers’ belongings from the spreading fire. Despite my efforts and the quick arrival of the fire department, everything inside was lost—clothes, shoes, furniture, appliances, food, gaming consoles, toys, bikes, beds, and all the little things that made our house a home. The fire, believed to have started near the pellet stove or an outlet, spread so quickly that nothing could be saved.

My father, Jesse, and my brothers, Jayce (14) and Joel (8), were left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Thankfully, everyone—including our pets—made it out safely, but the loss is overwhelming. There was no homeowners insurance, so my father now faces the daunting task of starting over from scratch. This house was our childhood home, filled with memories and love, and watching it disappear in flames was truly heartbreaking.

My brothers’ birthdays are coming up soon, and it’s hard to imagine celebrating when they have no place that feels like home. My father has always worked hard to provide for us, and now he needs help more than ever. We are hoping to raise enough to buy a new trailer or double wide, clean up the property, and replace the essentials that were lost.
