Jesse is only three years old and has always been the most affectionate, clingy, and loving cat. He follows me everywhere, sleeps next to me every night, and is my best friend. Seeing him in pain has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. At the beginning of March, Jesse started having unusual symptoms—he was going to the bathroom outside of his litter box and acting slightly off. On March 3rd, I took him to the vet. The vet had said it was just an emotional problem but on March 31st, everything changed. When I came home, Jesse cried out in pain when I picked him up—something he has never done before. He was weak, lethargic, and had been laying in his own urine. He wouldn’t eat or drink, and his breathing seemed heavy. I knew something was seriously wrong. I took him to the emergency vet, where they immediately took him back. Shortly after, the vet told me Jesse had a life-threatening urinary blockage that could not be relieved without emergency surgery. I was devastated. The surgery and hospitalization cost thousands of dollars—money I simply did not have as a 19-year-old. I applied for emergency financing and was thankfully approved, and they were able to operate on Jesse that same night. The surgery was successful, and he was currently recovering. However, he is still not ready to come home. Last night he reblocked again and needs an extended hospital stay. Jesse is still very lethargic and only eating by being force fed. The vet now recommends that he stay hospitalized for several more days, and they are also suggesting a second surgery called a PU (perineal urethrostomy) to prevent this from happening again. This procedure would cost even more. I am already overwhelmed trying to cover the initial costs, and I cannot afford the continued care and potential second surgery on my own. I am asking for any help—no matter how small—to give Jesse the chance to fully recover and come back home. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this would mean the world to me. Jesse is my best friend, and I’m not ready to lose him.
