Help Jess Heal and Thrive: Support My FFS Recovery
Hi everyone — my name is Jessica, though most people know me as Jess.
Since coming out as transgender in 2022, my journey has been filled with both challenges and moments of incredible beauty. I’ve worked hard to build a life that reflects who I truly am, while holding close to my favorite Doctor Who quote — “Run fast, laugh hard, be kind.” It’s a motto that has carried me through some of my darkest days, reminding me to keep going and to keep loving, no matter what.
In 2023, I was diagnosed with OCD after a difficult period that led to a stay at Stanford’s mental health ward for suicidal ideation. That experience changed my life — it forced me to slow down, to rebuild, and to prioritize healing. Around the same time, I lost my job as a Flight Test Engineer at Skydio, which was another huge blow.
But I refused to give up. I moved to the Sacramento area and began working as a Flight Test Operator for Zipline, an incredible company that delivers medical supplies via drones to communities around the world. I love what I do — it’s a chance to contribute to something meaningful and to help people every day.
Unfortunately, my family hasn’t been supportive of me being trans, and that’s been painful. Most of my extended family has chosen distance over understanding. Still, I’ve been lucky enough to build a beautiful found family here in Sacramento and Davis — people who see me, love me, and remind me that I belong.
Now, I have a major step ahead in my transition — Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) scheduled for November 28th. This surgery means the world to me. It’s not just about appearance — it’s about finally being able to look in the mirror and see me reflected back. It’s about safety, confidence, and peace.
I’ve been doing everything I can to prepare financially, but between medical costs, time off work, and recovery expenses, I’m struggling to make ends meet. Asking for help isn’t easy for me, but I’ve reached a point where I need to.
If you’re able to donate, share, or even just send a kind word — it would mean everything. Every bit of support helps me get one step closer to healing and living fully as myself.
Thank you for reading my story, for your compassion, and for being part of this journey with me. Sending love, hugs, and endless gratitude your way.
With love,
Jess
