“Adventure Awaits!” is a common phrase in our house. We have the scrapbook and built the Lego set together, presents we gave each other for Christmas. Little did we know a few days later she’d find a lump and a different adventure would begin. Testing and appointments that each led to bits of information and even more tests. Invasive lobular carcinoma (Grade 2) which roughly translates to pretty bad, but it could be worse (I hate to think what worse feels like). BTW she found the lump herself, having had a clear mammogram in August. SELF CHECKS ARE IMPORTANT!!
Do one now if it’s been a while! Make it a point to do them regularly.
We now have a surgery date after three months of appointments, biopsies, and tests. She’ll be getting a mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. Recovery time will be six weeks or so. I’ll be able to care for her, thanks to FMLA, but honestly, we could use some help.
Doctors can only tell you what needs to be done. The cost is a great unknown. There have already been bills and there will definitely be more.
This is not the kind of adventure we were thinking of, but we’ll get through it. When we think of what we need; visits, calls, and notes from friends are top of the list. The reality is that we need to find a way to pay the bills. Adventure awaits.
