Help Jess, Cheney and Jack Rebuild From Maui Fire
Donation protected
My name is Clayton Burrows and I have known Jess Murphy for 35 years. I created this fundraiser on behalf of his family to raise money to help them sustain, recover, rebound, and rebuild after a devastating fire in Lahaina, Maui, has left them displaced and with nothing but the few possessions that they evacuated with yesterday.
Unprecedented wildfires fueled by dry conditions and hurricane winds have destroyed the historic west Maui town of Lahaina over the last two days. Our dear friends Jess and Cheney, along with their kiddo Jack, have been displaced--most likely permanently--from their beloved community. They are all safe and currently taking shelter elsewhere on the island while firefighters continue to battle the blazes. While the family has not been allowed to return to Lahaina yet, it is all but certain, based on the path of the fire, that they have lost all but their lives in the disaster--their home, their cars, their possessions, and their community. The governor of Hawaii suggests that it will take years to rebuild Lahaina and the fires are ongoing, so even if their house was spared (which is unlikely), Jess, Cheney, and Jack will not be able to return home anytime soon as all of the utilities, roads, and infrastructure in their community are destroyed.
Being a displaced family in Hawaii is both incredibly challenging and incredibly expensive. This family could genuinely use your support and genuinely deserves all the love that you have to share right now. Losing one's house, possessions, community, and sense of security and place in 24 hours would be utterly devastating to anyone, but feeling loved and supported by friends, family, and strangers is perhaps the only remedy that can help these amazing friends rebound, recover, and rebuild.
Thank you, and we'll be sure to give updates on the status of their home as information becomes available in the coming days.
