tl;dr- we're moving for the sixth time in 12mths, please help us cover moving costs?
✨✨✨✨✨
Once upon a time, Jess and Indy decided to live together.
Their first sharehouse was full of mould, the cats didn't get along, and the person now known as Horrible Ex-Housemate made things very unpleasant. They managed to find their Hobbit Home, but it was only available the day after they had to be out of their last place, so they spent a night camping in Indy's mum's backyard, and moved all of their belongings into a storage unit and out again into their new place.
Hobbit Home 1.0 was wonderful, and was their home for 2 years! But unfortunately, in Jan 2024, their landlord gave them Notice to Vacate so that he could sell the property. Jess and Indy were unable to find a new home before their vacate date, so once again all of their belongings were moved into storage. They paid for movers (who did a lousy job, and damaged some of their furniture), but they were able to do the vacate clean themselves.
Jess, Indy, and Miss Jamie the cat spent March to September 2024 subletting with two different friends, trying and failing to find their next home. Luckily, their friend Hannah had decided to move, and when her landlord advised they had decided not to sell at that time, Jess and Indy were able to do a lease transfer, and in October Hobbit Home 2.0 was formed!
Once again they paid for movers, once again the movers damaged their furniture. (Also they sent the wrong size truck, and Jess had to do five more trips halfway across the city to empty the storage unit, but it's fine. It's fine.) They settled in, Jess gave away their boxes in a local community group, and all was well.
Then, in November, their new landlord gave them Notice to Vacate for March 2025, so that they could sell the property. As a bonus, the lease that they took over might require them to pay for a professional vacate clean (to restore the property to the state it had been provided in at commencement).
Jess and Indy were heckin depressed.
But hope struck - in the form of an angry and righteous Hannah, who took to a local community group to explain the situation and ask if anyone had a property they were looking to rent. Two people reached out, properties were inspected, and Jess and Indy applied for what will hopefully be their Hobbit Home 3.0!

Jess and Indy are now saving up:
- bond, and pet bond
- first month's rent
- funding for movers (we are paying more for a reputable brand this time)
- funding to professionally vacate clean HH2.0
This will be a challenge because our savings have been exhausted by our last two moves (and paying storage unit rent on top of sublet rent), and we have ⚠️two and a bit months to save up over $5000⚠️
Our fundraising goal is just to lower our moving costs - stretch goals would include vacate cleaning and/or pet bond for Miss Jamie.
Cozzie livs are nasty and it's the holiday season, so we know that most folks are already strapped for cash - donations of any amount are greatly appreciated!
