Hi, my name's Andrew and I've started this GoFundMe on behalf of my partner, Jess, to help give her every possible chance in the fight against cancer.
At 19, Jess convinced her parents to leave Hong Kong bound for Australia to study at UNSW and build a life in our lucky country. However, on Mother’s Day at just 24 years old, the life she was building was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. Without her parents by her side (due to COVID-border closures at the time), this news completely shattered her.
What was meant to be a happy Mother's Day call with her mum turned into Jess having to break devastating news to her family - only via video call.
From there it was a whirlwind of urgent appointments, and aggressive chemotherapy causing Jess to lose her hair. Backed up with surgeries, radiotherapy, and tolerating medically induced menopause symptoms for the rest of her life.
After five years of relentless treatments, the cancer has resisted all treatment in Australia and has spread to her brain, lungs, liver, bones, and lymph nodes.
Now, she's prioritising spending time with her parents back in Hong Kong. Jess is currently seeking treatment and clinical trial options in China that could extend and improve her life, but time is critical, and the costs we face are overwhelming.
Funds raised will go toward:
- Medical consultations, scans and medications.
- TACE therapy (Trans-arterial Chemoembolisation), a targeted procedure to shrink the largest tumour in her liver. Approximately $45,000 (for 1 month course).
- Participation in a groundbreaking CAR-T Cell clinical trial (not offered in Australia).
- Radiotherapy to treat the brain tumours.
- Ongoing chemotherapy.
As a partner and carer beside Jess throughout all of this I can hand on heart say Jess has never stopped fighting. If you can donate any amount: $10, $25 or $50 you can help give her access to treatment and precious time with her parents who sacrificed everything to kickstart their only child's future. If you're unable to donate, sharing this page with your networks could change everything.
Right now Jess needs an influx of hope to give her the strength to keep fighting this cruel disease. She has been incredibly resilient and stoic trying to sustain a life balanced between health, friends, family, and her passions - singing and animal rescue!
We would really appreciate your support!
With love and thanks,
Andrew and Jess xx
