Help Jesenia Rebuild Her Life and Keep Her Home

My name is Jesenia Polanco, and I never imagined I would find myself in a situation where I needed to ask for help. But after everything that has happened over the past year, I am now facing the very real possibility of losing my home.

For 28 years, I worked in public service and dedicated my career to doing my job with integrity. I served at the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA), helping support the work that builds and improves schools for the children of New York City.

On August 15, 2025, my employment with NYCSCA was terminated. I strongly believe my termination was unjust and discriminatory, and I am currently pursuing legal action to fight for accountability and justice.

Since losing my job, my financial situation has deteriorated rapidly despite doing everything possible to stay afloat.

I applied for unemployment benefits through the New York State Department of Labor and began receiving assistance. My weekly benefit amount was $869, with a total maximum benefit of $22,594. Unfortunately, unemployment alone has not been enough to cover the mounting expenses of everyday life, including my mortgage, utilities, and basic living costs. My last unemployment payment ended on March 2, 2026, leaving me without income.

My bank account has even fallen into a negative balance while I try to manage these financial pressures.

Recently, the situation has become even more serious.

I received a notice warning that my mortgage is now past due and my home is at risk of foreclosure. This is the home where my family lives and where we have built our lives. Losing it would be devastating.

In addition, I am struggling to keep up with essential utility bills, including electricity, gas, and water, which are necessary to keep our home safe and livable.

Beyond the financial hardship, this experience has taken a serious toll on my health. Due to the severe stress and trauma I experienced from the discrimination at my workplace, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a neurological condition that affects the nervous system. Because of this condition, my doctors have indicated that I am currently unable to work while I focus on treatment and recovery.

Despite everything, I am continuing to fight for justice in my case while also trying to rebuild my life and focus on my health.

But right now, I need help.

I am asking for support to help cover:

• Mortgage arrears to prevent foreclosure
• Utility bills to keep electricity, gas, and water on
• Basic living expenses during this difficult time

Any contribution — no matter how small — would make a meaningful difference and help my family stay in our home while I continue fighting for justice and stability.

If you cannot donate, sharing this campaign would also mean the world to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can provide during this incredibly difficult chapter of my life.

With gratitude,
Jesenia Polanco
