Help Jerry&Christine Through an Unimaginable Medical Crisis

Jerry and Christine Thompson are a young married couple who moved to Vermont a few years ago, far from their family and friends back in Pennsylvania. Jerry is a self employed electrician, hard working, reliable, and the kind of guy who shows up when you need him. Christine has been right by his side through thick and thin.

A few weeks ago, Jerry had a routine shoulder surgery. But not long after, everything changed.

On Sunday, March 9th, Jerry suffered a ruptured esophagus, an extremely rare and life threatening condition. His left lung collapsed and filled with blood. He was rushed to the hospital in Rutland, VT, and then emergency transferred to Dartmouth Medical Center in New Hampshire for life saving surgery. He’s had three surgeries! so far, including emergency repair of his esophagus, and is still in the hospital with multiple tubes, IVs, and a feeding tube.

Jerry remains unable to work, and as a self employed electrician, that means zero income. Christine has been traveling constantly between hospitals, managing communication with doctors, and taking on all the stress alone while keeping up with the home and bills. Jerry has a long recovery ahead physical therapy, occupational therapy, and ongoing procedures to make sure the esophagus leak fully heals.

He’s made steady progress, but every step forward seems to come with a new hurdle. His story includes:

ICU stays

Nutrition through feeding tube

Drainage procedures

Ongoing chest tubes

A swallow study that revealed a leak still remains

A painful new procedure to place a stent

Constant pain and sleepless nights

Despite all of this, Jerry’s fighting spirit is intact. His white blood cell count is finally coming down, and there’s hope on the horizon, but the financial burden is heavy, and it's not going away anytime soon.
