Hi, my name is Jerry, A month ago, I went on a motorcycle trip to see the beach in North Carolina — the very first time in my life I had ever seen the ocean. I enjoyed the view, took in the moment, and then began my ride back home. Sadly, I never made it home the same way I left.

On my return, I was in a serious motorcycle accident. There were no witnesses, and to this day, I don’t know exactly what happened. I was conscious during the crash, but those memories are gone. The first five days in the hospital are also a blur.

The accident left me with:

• A concussion and a small brain bleed

• A broken right wrist

• A fractured femur

• A broken knee

• Severe nerve damage in my left hand, limiting my ability to use it

Before the accident, I was completely independent and took care of myself without needing help. Now, I find myself relying on others for things I never thought I would need assistance with.

I now have metal implants in my right hand that will need surgery to remove. I require ongoing physical therapy and take Eliquis, a blood thinner that costs about $560 every month.

Recently, I received a hospital bill for over $380,000. I know there’s no way I could ever raise that full amount here — but just having that number over my head is overwhelming. My goal is simply to get enough help to cover the essential medical care, therapy, and living expenses I need to keep going while I recover.

Without health insurance, every medical appointment is very expensive. On top of that, I cannot work right now, so I still have regular bills piling up.
