Jerry is a sweet, 5-year-old pit bull who’s already survived more than most dogs ever will.

He was abandoned in an empty apartment when his owners moved away — left behind with another dog, scared and alone. When help finally came, Jerry was taken to an overcrowded shelter… and that’s when his life was almost cut short.

Jerry was placed on the euthanasia list — not for behavior, but because there simply wasn’t enough space.

But here’s the thing: Jerry was never just a number to the people who met him.

Shelter volunteers saw his gentle soul. They posted, they networked, and they fought for him — because Jerry was worth saving.

And they were right.

A Rescue Stepped In — Just in Time

Poor Paws Rescue pulled Jerry in the nick of time. They saw his potential and gave him a second chance. Jerry made a long journey from Georgia to safety in Virginia, where he’s now surrounded by care and compassion.

But even though Jerry is finally safe, he’s still healing from the deep emotional wounds of abandonment and fear.

Jerry’s Challenges

Even in a calm setting, Jerry struggles with:

Anxiety and overstimulation

Fear of new places and people

Disconnection from his surroundings

Difficulty interacting with other dogs

He wants to trust. He wants to connect. He just needs help learning how.

To truly heal and become adoptable, Jerry needs a professional board-and-train program — a structured, supportive environment where he can:
